After the advances in the field of root ecology and the better understanding of the fine-root trait space (‘Root Economics Space’, Bergmann et al. 2020) thanks to the sROOT workshops, Alex Weigelt and Liesje Mommer initiated a follow-up workshop series to test how root functional strategies relate to ecosystem functioning. Together with Katie Barry (Utrecht University), I am leading the manuscript in which we show the importance of the collaboration gradient of roots for many ecosystem functions, such as plant productivity, decomposition and nutrient cycling. The results are now published in New Phytologist https://doi.org/10.1111/nph.70606!
